District Conference this year, by all accounts and feedback received, delivered a conference that tested our emotions, made us laugh and at times made us cry.  The talent of our speakers provided for a roller-coaster ride that exemplified the resilience of human endeavour, the renewal of life and our environment, and the need to look at regeneration of our ideas, our purpose, and the need to make changes to continually meet our community expectations.

To celebrate Rotary International’s 100th anniversary in 2005, five centenary bells were sent around the world.  One bell would visit 100 of the oldest remaining clubs.  The other four would circulate through the four regions of Rotary.  In 2003, at the RI convention in Brisbane, the first regional bell started it’s journey through the South Pacific.  Each of these bells would eventually come together at the 100 year convention in Chicago where Rotary first started.

Rotary Club of Geelong East launched their new Environmental project – adopting the Walk against Waste from the Alfredton Rotary Club.  Armed with tongs and buckets, we scoured the area around the Barwon River and RCGE Safety Marker # 39.  Meeting up at 5:30PM, twelve of us had time for a catch up and a chat whilst strolling around and collecting a variety of rubbish.   It felt good and we made a difference to the environment.  Over a picnic afterwards, we talked about the next steps.

The Rotary Foundation has launched a worldwide appeal to support the Ukrainian people affected by the current fighting in their country.

From now until 30 April 2022, all donations to the Foundation’s Disaster Response Fund will be made available to the Rotary District in Ukraine and to designated Rotary Districts bordering Ukraine sheltering refugees from the war-torn country.  From now until 30 June 2022, those Rotary Districts will be able to access this Fund to apply for disaster response grants to purchase items such as water, food, shelter, medicine and clothing.
