As I have started to share my ideas, opinions and stories about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in Rotary, I have heard so many of our leaders say to me: “We’re a really decent club/district. We don’t have any bad people. So, we don’t have a problem. Right?”
Fifteen-year-old Rashmi dreams of being a doctor. When Interplast last met the Sri Lankan schoolgirl, she was busy studying for her Ordinary-Level examinations, undertaken in the final two years of high school.
District 9780 DIK has recently sent a container of repurposed and recycled donated goods to the Port Moresby area in the Gulf Province of Papua New Guinea. Working with Lucy Loko, a DIK committee member who is from the area, it was specifically targeted at primary schools and gender-based violence victims. Lucy ensured that all goods loaded were targeted to be useful to the recipients. They were also goods that would otherwise have ended up in land fill. All goods were prepared and packed by the 30 or so Rotarians and Volunteers who regularly participate at the depot. This support activity is very important to them.
I am Desley Beechey from the Rotary Club of Ballarat South and have recently been appointed as ROMAC Chair for District 9780.
I would appreciate the opportunity to share current information on ROMAC with your club. ROMAC provides surgical treatment in Australia and New Zealand for children from developing countries within our Pacific region in the form of life giving and/or dignity restoring surgery not accessible to them in their home country. This great humanitarian Rotary program offers a dramatic improvement in the quality of life for the individual child and their community.
A simple statement? If you have been “nominated” to be your Club’s Environment Champion, where do you start? The good news is that all successful change starts with easy, baby steps.
We need your help, as a Rotary leader, to raise funds and awareness for The Rotary Foundation this #GivingTuesday, 30 November. This global day of giving is an opportunity for all Rotary members to make a big impact with a gift of any size to our Annual Fund-SHARE. Last year, we raised more than US$800,000 — and we’re asking you to help us raise even more this year!
Melbourne Convention Host Hospitality Night: May 29, 2023
Rotarians who are registered for the Convention and live within an approximate 15 km radius of the CBD can apply to host between 4 and 8 international and interstate guests in their home for dinner. Priority for hosting will be given to Registered Convention attendees but non-attendee Rotarians are also welcome to apply.
On Saturday October 30, 2021, a select and very lucky group of people who had managed to obtain tickets experienced "World Class Opera" under the stars and under the gaze of the spectacular Indigenous artwork of the Sheep Hills Silos.
It is with much sadness that Catherine Eagleson has announced her resignation as our D9780 Chair for Australian Rotary Health due to personal reasons. Catherine has been a great strength to our ARH Program and support to me.
DG John and I would like to announce that Gitte Lindgaard from Wendouree Breakfast Club has accepted the position and is now the new ARH Chair for our District.
Both Catherine and I will mentor Gitte and give support where needed.
I would like to thank Catherine for her endeavours and hard work over the past 3 years.
