Global Grant Approved
Posted by Pauline Stewart
The first Global Grant sponsored by a club in our district has just been approved. PP Neville Gilbertson, Rotary Club of Mount Gambier West, developed a project to provide a GeneXpert machine to Klibur Domin, the Ryder-Cheshire home in Timor Leste.
The machine will test for Multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Tests can be carried out in about 2 hours instead of having to wait for sputum samples to be tested in Adelaide. This will reduce the chances of administering the wrong drugs.
The project will cost $US36,480 and has been supported by six clubs; Mount Gambier West, Casterton, Hamilton North, Millicent, Mount Gambier and Mount Gambier Lakes, as well as the D9780 District Designated Fund.
