Rotary District 9780 and in particular the District Youth Committee have partnered with the Glenelg and Southern Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network (GSGLLEN) on a project named “Enhance Work Placement Experience for Everyone” (AKA Enhance Work Experience or EWE). The project is funded by the National Careers Institute.
The GSGLLEN team know that many students do not complete work experience for many reasons, including the lack of choices in the rural communities they live in. Some students do not have the necessary support to identify a suitable employer, or travel beyond their home town for work experience.
This project will see students thinking outside the square knowing that Rotary Clubs and members are willing and able to host them in a placement anywhere across District 9780. An example would be students from Portland heading to Horsham. Another example is students in Balmoral may only need transport support to travel to Hamilton each day for several days.
Wendy and her Youth Committee will be getting in touch with clubs across the District to urge you to dust off the Youth Declarations and necessary systems to get this project underway. There will be an opportunity for Rotarians to host students in their homes or to host placements in their work place.
Marg is keen to talk to clubs about this exciting project. She is available via email: marg@gsgllen.org.au or phone: 0490 290304
