As Chairman it is with pleasure that I am able to report on DIK for 2007-8. It has been a good year which is due to the great group of Rotarian and non Rotarian volunteers who regularly turn up each Tuesday and/ or Wednesday morning.  Without their input DIK would not exist.

While it is my hope that volunteers from other clubs will become more involved on a regular basis, I would like to thank the members of the Geelong Rotary Club who turn up so faithfully each week in so ably while I was on holidays.

During the past 12 months we have shipped containers to

Vanuatu; Fiji - (Lautoka and Dreketi); PNG - (Oro Bay, Mt Hagen and Port Moresby); Tonga; Sri Lanka; Zomba in Malawi; and Honiara.

What do we send

We only send items which are requested by the overseas group - items include:

crockery, x-ray machines, hospital beds, clothing, books, computers, shoes, bras, medical supplies, a Toyota vehicle, a caravan and boat.  We try to ensure that what we send is in working order

Some statistics

We have sent 18 - 20ft and 40ft containers since July 2007

Total costs of shipping and road transport were approximately $65,000

Estimated value of goods for customs is more than $300,000

Approximately 8000 hours of volunteer labour valued at $120,000.00

I would once again express DIK's thanks to all those volunteers and clubs who have helped out in one way or another during the past 12 months.
