Primary School Textbook and Reading Book Drive for Preps to Grade 8
for the Rotary Club of Boroko, Papua New Guinea
Children in Victoria are provided with new stationery at the start of the year, each year, and old stationery is recycled or ends up in the rubbish bin and the landfill.
The Rotary Club of Boroko has always been DIK Rotary Geelong’s International sponsor when it comes to doing any international projects with an overseas supporting club, in PNG. Some 87% of the people in PNG live in rural areas with little or no facilities. The main problems are the limited access to basic health services and educational services.
High-quality education is one of the many factors that matter to the people of Papua New Guinea, as it’s fundamental to human and economic development. This has been an ongoing major issue. The educational system is poorly funded and our neighbours have been struggling, especially the Preps to Grade 8 students, when it comes to reading. We are collecting reading basics books, to improve their literacy and to provide help and guidance to children in receiving a basic education. Literacy is also a very important tool when it comes to getting out of the poverty cycle.

We could fill a container with educational primary school reading books and textbooks, and work with Donations-In-Kind Rotary Geelong to get it to PNG. Rotary Boroko volunteers in Port Moresby will distribute these items to the schools that need our help.
If your club would like to help, could you collect any used Primary school reading books and Primary school textbooks, i.e. Maths, History, English, Geography, and primary school reading books at Preps to Grade 8 levels. Included here are samples of the textbooks and reading books, so you have an idea of the type of textbooks and reading books needed for PNG.

Forward to Lucy Loko at Donations-In-Kind Rotary Geelong.
Opening days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9 AM to 12.30 PM.
Address: 75 Roseneath Street, North Geelong VIC
This is a chance for each one of us in District 9780 to donate a primary school textbook or a primary school reading book or your club may wish to donate financially to DIK Geelong, to help bring this container across to our neighbouring country, PNG. Please help our fellow Rotarians of Boroko. We would be forever grateful for your assistance in making this possible.
