Happy New Year to Rotarians one and all!

BUSHFIRE RELIEF
2020 is off to a difficult start with fires across much of the nation.  We have heard announcements of special funding from Governments, substantial donations from many celebrities, organisations and individuals.

But there will be so much to do to support affected people and communities for many months to come.  Rotary, with its intimate connection to communities will have an important role into the future to help those trying to cope with loss in whatever form, and to get their lives and their communities ‘back to normal’.

There are predictions of some substantial rain later this week.  Let’s hope it does only good and douses the fires!

Please see the information below where you can donate or volunteer.

Letter from RIP Mark Daniel Moloney

Dear District Governors of Australia,

I was saddened to hear of the widespread devastation in Australia from the recent and ongoing brush fires and the growing impact it is having on your country. Gay and I send our sincere condolences to all communities affected.

It is heartening that Rotarians are answering the call in Australia and providing assistance however we can to people in need. The Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) is doing a wonderful job raising funds and dispersing them efficiently. In addition to this resource, I want you to know that Rotary provides several other forms of assistance as well, and you should feel free to request these resources as needed.

Assisting Fire Effected Communities

Two members of the Rotary Club of Mt Gambier West with the assistance of other local farmers have banded together & sent 34 round bales of hay to fire affected properties at Keilira, west of Padthaway that was burnt out a couple of weeks ago.

Thousands of sheep that did survive the fires are struggling for food as most of the available grass & baled hay was burnt. The bales of hay in this load were donated by club members Chris Klaassens & David Muller.

The Rotary Club of Mt Gambier West would also like to acknowledge the assistance of Karl Gladigau & Hancock Contracting who assisted with the use of their equipment for baling & loading the hay.
In the next few weeks the Club hope to have several other similar projects to assist fire & drought damaged communities.

From RI President, Mark Daniel Maloney

I am excited to share some good news: Rotary International and Toastmasters International are working together to provide our members with even more opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Toastmasters International is a global nonprofit organization with more than 16,800 clubs in 143 countries. Its members attend club meetings where they give speeches, evaluate the speeches of others, and perform other club duties, with the goal of ultimately becoming more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders. Our organizations are complementary in many ways, but we are each unique in what we offer our members.
