RI PRESIDENT MARK MALONEY AND GAY DINNER AT BALLARAT A GREAT SUCCESS
More than 360 Rotarians came to Ballarat for Dinner with the RI President Mark Maloney and Gay on 24 September. Rotarians enjoyed the opportunity to hear Mark speak compelling on growing Rotary and seeing some special Rotarians with significant anniversaries or Awards receive letters or certificates of recognition personally from President Mark.  It was a very moving experience.

Our gift to them of an e-Book containing the signature project/activity of each Club in D9780 was a unique and meaningful gift to Mark and Gay.  This e-Book of Projects is available on the District website.  CLICK HERE to access.

Mark and Gay were very generous at the end of the Dinner and posed for photographs with countless groups of Rotarians, so most went home with a great memento of the night that they will not forget.

A special thank you to Group 8 Assistant Governor Ellie Beer and her organising Committee of Ballarat Presidents and others, who did a fantastic job in presenting D9780 so well to our RI President.

LIFT THE LID – FUNDS FOR MENTAL HEALTH
I have attended 3 Lift the Lid celebratory fund raisers so far this month.  Congratulations to all the Clubs for the effort they put into dressing up in silly hats, having fun and raising funds for such an important cause.  I have enclosed my favourite photo from my meeting with the Group 2 Clubs – very colourful and timely.
POLIO PLUS FUNDRAISER – OCTOBER 24
Congratulations to all those Clubs organising viewings of the ‘Ride Like a Girl’ movie as a fund raiser for Polio Plus.  Eradicating polio will change the world forever and so it remains Rotary’s top priority project.

Let us know how you went!  Please report your Club’s ‘Ride Like a Girl’ (or other movie) fundraising effort to our new Rotary Foundation Chair PDG Brian Trenery at bjtrenery@bigpond.com  I look forward to passing on next month the total raised by our District through this initiative.

Have a great month and remember ‘Rotary Connects the World’!

Swan Hill Community Water Fountain

It was a chilly Saturday morning, but at 11am on Saturday 10th August we saw the official opening of our recently installed drinking fountain. President Rob Sonogan, Past president Deb Quin and Community U representative Pina Rosaia joined forces to unveil the fountain with Rob and Pina speaking about the collaboration which saw the project realised.

When members of the public brought the fact that there was no drinking fountain located in the main street to our attention, noting that a drinking fountain would also help to reduce the use of plastic bottles, Sunrise Rotary listened

October Update

The END POLIO NOW campaign rolls on towards Word Polio Day on October 24 and our volunteer and professional teams around the world continue to bravely confront the many challenges.

Global case numbers for the Wild Polio Virus (wpv) and vaccine derived cVDPV continue to creep upwards – underlining the importance of continuing strength in the ongoing surveillance and immunisation programs.

The continuing conflict along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border has made it impossible for Polio immunisation teams to get into many areas and surveys reveal some five million children are not immunised.

Membership Development & Public Image Seminars

The third of five Membership Development and Public Image Seminars was held in Horsham this month.
20 Rotarians joined in a day of sharing ideas group discussions and learning new ways to think about Membership Development, and how to effectively get our message out to prospective new members.

The next Seminar will be held in Ballarat on 2nd November, followed by Port Fairy on 23 November. A Membership Development only seminar will be held in Mt Gambier on 24 November - venue to be advised.
These seminars are thought provoking and challenging, providing participants with the tools to re think our approach to attracting new members, existing member development, and promoting the work of Rotary in our own communities and globally.

The seminar cost is $35 and you can register online from this link

Letter of Appreciation - Gabrielle Hunter

My name is Gabrielle Hunter and I am the grateful recipient of the Rotary District 9780 Regional and Rural Scholarship 2019. The aim of this letter is to convey my gratitude to the Rotary District for their generosity although I am fully aware that a simple letter is not enough to do so.

Rotary have been a part of my life since I was born. My late Grandfather was a Past District Governor (9810) and for as long as I can remember I was at sausage sizzles and book fairs showing my support for the many causes that Rotary support, with my family.
